Along with the landscape, the weather is an overriding factor. Luckily experiences await in all kinds of weather. Sustainable behavior in nature is paramount. Passing the UNESCO key site an Inuit settlement Arajutsisut short briefing on its history..
In June 2018 the Aasivissuit – Nipisat area was inscribed as a UNESCO site. It is a cultural landscape shaped by humans for the past 4500 years stretching all the way from the ice cap to the coast. Sisimiut back country is the biggest ice free area in Greenland therefor is has always been a valuable hunting ground for many different groups of settlers, and still is for Greenlanders today. On Nipisat the guide will take you on a hike around the island to the remainings from the different Inuit cultures. You will hear about their way of living and surviving in the harsh arctic nature. The hike will also take you to the site where the colonists had their 2nd colony in Greenland and were struggling to hunt whales and staying out of trouble with the Dutch whale hunters..
After having our lunch, we tend back to the boat and sail to Sisimiut via Ikarasaq..
